Al,
The HC-1 is a SPDT relay, which means it only switches one RF path
(usually output RF). Most amps using a vacuum relay at output use a smaller
and faster relay on the input (also a SPDT). The input RF path and output
RF path both have to be switched.
If the Yaesu amp uses a big, slow DPDT relay to switch both in and out RF
paths, you can't just replace it with a single vacuum relay. You would need
to install 2 of them, and then most amps using the vacuum relays have some
means to prevent hot switching them as well.
