Subject: [TenTec] PTO Rebuild or not
I did the PTO in my Corsair a number of times in an attempt to cure a
warble - which was caused by a dirty pot and not the PTO! I got quite
adept at it and could do it in about 2 hours including taking it out and
re-installing it.
I nearly used methyl chloride as a solvent until I realised it would
dissolve the plastic fittings! In the end I used petrol (= gas).
One trick I used when I fixed watches to avoid losing small parts: cut a
hole in each end of a shoebox big enough for your hands to get through
and put a sheet of glass or perspex on the top of the box so's you can
see what you're doing. Anything which flies off will stay in the box.
Go for it!
