I think if there is only one socket for a roofing filter, it must be as wide as the widest signal mode you receive in order to pass the modulation for all modes. If there were multiple sockets I guess it depends if certain roofing slots are selected by the same button as certain IF filter slots, so you would have FM filter in one position, SSB in another, and CW in last slots that are linked.
