Guys,
There is yet another side to this Eagle discussion: ease of use. At our
club station here in the desert, a kind member donated a Yaesu MkV. We
interfaced it to our 3-el SteppIR, and waited for the happy users to show up.
Few of them did. When we asked why, they told us that they were
intimidated by all the MkV knobs and features, and wanted something simpler to
operate. So, we set up a second station with an IC-707 and a Gap vertical,
and
everyone is happy again.
Unlike the folks on this reflector (even I have a BSEE even though I never
worked in engineering or technology), most hams nowadays are fairly
non-technical. If the Eagle is even close to being as simple to use as the
Argo
V, it'll be a winner.

One item I see popping up in the discussions is the possibility for a
9MHz IFoutput. The discussion that happened at the hamfest was that
there is a 9MHz IF section in the 599 Eagle, there is no output
port/jack on the 599 Eagle for it. There is a spot in the hardware
where 9MHz IF can be be tapped, buffered, and then brought out, but
there is no jack for it on the back. Could bring it out using a wire
to a buffer then through one of the vents on the side, or whatever an
entrepreneurial person comes up with.
I really enjoy seeing the discussions going on. We hope everyone
enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making and testing it.
Thanks,
John Henry
