The number of TASCO 10x telescopes at garage sales is a good example.
Nothing compares to seeing a double star on a proper telescope.
I agree on all points - new folks should get a good, recent vintage radio
with descent power. No tube, QRP, classic transistor, handyman specials,
UNLESS that is what they are specifically looking for. Also notice people
can sometimes reflect their own particular interest onto a newcomer, and
unintentionally make limiting suggestions. Gotta be careful with that.
