Rip,
The Omni VI works with either a serial port directly to the back of
the rig, or with the ICOM 2-wire control interface. Since I already had the
ICOM i/f when I got my Omni VI+, I just used that and it worked very well.

Thanks guys for your opinions on these software programs.
The first hurdle that I was attempting to get past is
simply logging my contacts, much as I do with my paper
log and being able to maintain a data base of those contacts
without necessarily being connected to my Omni VI. I need to
figure out how I go about connecting the Omni VI; I have
the manual at this point but little else. The LM software
apparently is designed for this type of logging activity
without the interactive component of controlling the rig.
I guess my initial concern is whether to trust the software
from this European web site. It is not listed on product
reviews from E Ham but I found it via a DX site. Rip W7RIP
