Jeremy,
I'm certainly no authority on the Omni C, having just recently acquired an
Omni D/B myself. And can't imagine what besides the PTO or PA transistors
is likely to be an issue. All of the old Ten Tec stuff I've qcquired worked
well without issues ( besides PTO) for as long as I owned them.
But, regarding the parts issue, one possible strategy would be to acquire
another working rig of the same generation. For example, I own a 540, 544
and now this 546. BTW, the 544 is my favorite of the three. Many of the
components/boards seem similar between these rigs, so a failure in one could
be diagnosed by "board swapping", then component level repair to fix the
failed board. Most of the components are still commonly available in
functionally equivalent replacements. For example, just built a 245 filter
for my 544, which didn't come equipped with that option, from scratch with
components from digikey using the filter from the 540 as a pattern.
All three of these rigs cost in the $200-250 range, so acquiring a companion
for your Omni C shouldn't be too expensive, especially since you could get
one of the previous generation Omni Ds rather than the popular Omni C, most
of the components ( like the PA transistors) will be identical.
Just my "two cents"
