[TenTec] PTO rebuild question

Finally rebuilding the Triton 540 PTO here.

Step says to grease the threads inside the pistol.  Done.  But are you
supposed to also grease the outside surface of the 1/2-inch or so diameter
core (medium gray color, with ribs) which moves in/out of the PTO coil?  I
don't recall degreasing the inside of the PTO core when I took all this
apart (been a couple months) so I'm guessing no but wanted to check with the
list.
