Hi John,
Batteries and shipping them is going to be a BIG expense. In true
ham tradition, there is an innovative alternative to auto and
marine batteries:
I found an inexpensive source of deep-cycle, solid-plate,
liquid-filled lead acid batteries at SAMS Club. They are 6VDC Golf
Cart batteries for $70ea. I don't recall the AH capacity, but they
weigh in around 80lbs each. I use two for emergency power on a
Deltran VRW Power Tender Plus quad-state charger, and with 300W
true-sine inverter.
Bring some junk car batteries (or lawn mower, etc) for the core
charge replacement.
I also use the same batteries as backup for our club's three GE
repeaters.
