Molly at Alpha indicates that 4cx800s are becoming available again and that
Alpha will offer matched pairs in the January timeframe. She didn't indicate a
price. If they are available to Alpha I am sure they will be to Ten Tec. I am
not sure I would write off the 4cx800 based amps yet. Now, I don't think these
are current production items, but NOS Russian sourced. Even so, those 4cx800s
have been a great value to the ham community for the last 10 years or so. They
have proven super reliable for me. Maybe a good strategy would be to pick up a
spare matched set - would probably last most of us for the rest of our lives.
I do believe you would need to swap them with your current finals to keep them
from getting gassy.
