1000 Hz is fine for CW only operation. i have my Orions set with that filter in line all the time. that cuts some of the noise one hears as well. when necessary i can choose 500 or 250 Hz.

As I will not be operating SSB with the OmniV, I am considering
putting a 1000 Hz INRAD filter (9.0 IF) in place of
the 2.4 kHz TT filter. The filter shape appears to be wide enough to
allow a CW signal through. This substitution would,
of course, allow me to have a 500 Hz filter in the 'NARROW' slot,
making it just right for CW.
