Ken: I was a Hyperlog user for many years and I know how good the program
was for doing what the DX'er wanted done, quickly without a lot of "flash
and trash". Unfortunately, after many months of research, I have concluded
that there is no program that does what Hyperlog did. The closest of the
free Windows programs is probably Ham Radio Deluxe, which also includes
excellent rig control and beautiful graphics, but its big weakness is that
it does not distinguish between a DXCC entity *worked* and
*confirmed*...they're both the same to HRD! Also, when you hear a station,
you can't quickly check to see if you need the country on a particular
band/mode. You're flying in the dark. No freeware program I tested was
able to do that, control an Orion II and integrate with an Internet spotting
cluster. The old Hyperlog grid was perfect for that.

I finally settled on LOGic 8, which is big, complicated, has a giant
learning-curve and plenty of minor annoyances, but it does all the things I
want, and waaaay too much more. It cost $125, but I'd pay twice that for a
user-friendly, simple Windows program that did what Hyperlog did!
