Reg,

What I am trying to confirm is that the cable is the source of the problem.
When you do the V2 mod, you have to disconnect the suspect ribbon cable.
That may be enough flexing to correct the problem. I have heard from
members of the list that have the problem and I have asked them to check the
ribbon cable, but don't do any other work. If the RIT/XIT starts working
again, the cable is very suspect. Also I am trying to find someone that has
a defective RIT/XIT and a remote POD. You can program the POD to be the
RIT/XIT. I have heard that it works when the front panel RIT/XIT won't
work. You still need to turn on the RIT/XIT from the front panel, but then
you can change it with the POD. You change function in the Menus, Other and
the last item.

Years ago as a kid, I saw the expression "Difficult - it takes a while.
Impossible - it just takes a little longer!" I plan on conquering this
problem.

John

All I can say is that since the repair was done on my Orion serial number
10C10464 (as outlined in a previous post) in September 2007, I have had no
further RIT/XIT problems. When I took the rig in, I mentioned the various
theories put forward in this forum at that time, including encoder failure.
The distributor thought that, in their experience, it was unlikely to be a
decoder problem. They were correct - it appeared that an old fashioned
re-solder job did the trick, although they also did the v2 mod and updated
the firmware from the original 1.372 to 1.373b5 at the same time. If
(judging from earlier posts) Ten Tec are still in denial about this fault, I

suggest they contact their UK distributor who seem to have more knowledge
and experience of it than they do (and know how to fix it).
