Gents (and Gals)
Although I mainly work 40 (and occasionally 80 / 20 ) I like my S-match (design
by PA0FRI , a twist on the old link coupled ATU) with its galvanically
seperation between antenna and transceiver very much. Cuts out a lot of crap.
This discussion on the bazooka antenna reminds of something I came accross in
days past: Absolutely nothing seems to gets the temperaments more going than
anything else under hunters than to mention which caliber gun is "the best".
Very heated discussions follow.
Not to offfend anyone but I like to remark that simulation programs, although
very good, are just that: trying to mimic real life. As the hearsay goes:
According to scientists the bumble bee is not supposed to be able to fly.
As my elmer used to say "Horses for causes".
If I had the real estate then I would put up my "trapped, reduced in size 40 &
20 vertical oriented loop" which sits very low to the ground and has no peaks
an throughs in its elevation pattern and has no need for any groundplane. The
ideal antenna for a field day imho.

Except that any good receiver should already reject all the out of band
noise.

There could be some benefit there, though I've had great success with
lumped element filters that survived the event better than the Bazooka
did.
