Thanks for all the input on Amplifiers. I have an Ameritron AL-811 and
drive it with an OMNI V.
After reading all the info regarding Rick, KR9D's problems with his
amp., I can say I really learned a lot about amplifiers, tubes and
troubleshooting. It read like a detective novel ! I have been a ham
for 56 years and have owned just about every amp. made out there, from
the cheapest to the most expensive, Heathkit to Alpha, and built some of
my own, but I now realize how little I knew about amps. and their design
/ operation.
I now know why I subscribe to this reflector - for all the knowledge I
gain ! You guys are thoughtful, have tremendous incite, and it is a
pleasure to read your comments. I appreciate that an old guy like me
can still learn something every day !
I am going to take Ed K3NR's advice and read up on amplifiers in the
2008 ARRL Handbook that I just won at a local Swap Fest.
