I too tried (owned and used) almost everything else around, though hardly
the 45 years you waited. And I never found a transceiver that would come
close to equalling the CW performance of my Viking II + Drake 2b until I
got my first T-T, a Triton. Next came Omni D. Same ultra-quiet and
sensitive receiver, but much more versatility. And now a Six - more gadgets
than I know what to do with, mainly the full crop of filters, really a plus,
and still the QSK to rival the unbeatable 2b. Troubles with any of them
over the years have been far rarer than with any of the big J-three, and
service, both telephone advice and back-to-home, is everything they claim.
Quite refreshing after some experiences with (I won't name names.). Plenty
of good Omni D's abound - try one and find out for yourself. Dave, K3TX
