I am not sure how much effort you want to put into this after the changing
EPROM chips. Between now and then you can perform two simple tests...
First, change mode to FSK and alternate between CW while transmitting into a
load. Ideally, you should not hear a qualitative difference in the
transmitted tone when listening to an external Rx. But, you may find that
FSK sounds better.
Next, bypass the 2.4 kHz @ 9MHz filter with bare wire and conduct the same
experiment. If you hear changes for the better, then odds are that
placement of the CW TX BFO is on, or near the knee of the 2.4 kHz filter.
