Ben,
I have had my O2 for a few years and I had an O for a year before lightning
killed it and the ARRL insurance paid for the O2 (almost all).
I use the rig for SSB and digital modes. I have had very good reports
(during contest from the Big Guns!). I am using a Heil Goldline GM-4 desk
mike and always for DX and Contest the Heil Pro-set Headset with the HC-4
(DX) element. I use Signal Processing [SP] of "7" or "8" on SSB and with
the Monitor function I do not notice any distortion. I transmit a 2400Hz
signal barefoot. I connect the mike(s) either direct or using a microHAM
microKEYER via the sound card.
On the desk mike, I had to go into the mike connector and remove the case
ground from one side of the element (case still grounded) so that I could
eliminate the ground loop. The headset works without modification.

Subject: [TenTec] ORION II the right rig for SSB ?
Hello,
I made my subscription to this reflector with the intention to buy an ORION
II on a short term and I try to get as much as possible inputs and comments
from TT Orion II users.
As my operation is for 99% SSB, DX, big Pile-Ups and contests I am
especially looking for comments from TT users with SSB experiences.
I got the opportunity to use a FT-2000 during several months, all in all an
unit with nice features, but the voice compressor is mediocre and the
average power output, Talk Power, is quite low compared to other rigs.
In the archives of this reflector and reviews on Eham I found also negative
comments regarding the average SSB power output of the Orion II.
I sent a mail to Ten Tec and got following answer back:
>I went and read these -- I don't think there is any merit to that. I
>would say they just need to turn up the mic gain -- there is no issue
>with average power output on SSB being any different than any other
>transceiver. Scott W4PA
This answer could not convince me actually to order the Orion.
I hope to find here users comments and advices helping me to make my buying
decision.
Looking forward for the comments with the intention to become shortly member
of the Ten Tec family.
Best 73
Ben
