If I unplug the com1 serial port, the computer reconfigures the usb port to com2.

found out that everytime i shut down and reboot, I get new and different com ports for the usb adapters.


This would be a non-issue with Linux. Static com port assignments and in order. But, IIRC you can access the com port assignments under MS and change them to suit your needs. Look in the control panel under system and then hardware.
