Goes to the old saying (?) that the total cost of a car's parts is X (5? 10?) times the cost of the complete car. When selling cannibalized parts, I would guess that the seller has to hope there are enough units around needing many, if not most of the parts from the cannibalized unit to make it worthwhile to disable an operational unit.
