And the winner is.....The missing plug in jumper between Key and 
Keyer Out. Looks like the previous owner forgot to include it. I can 
use a short RCA M-to-M or use the jumper that came out of the VFO 
In/Out when I plugged in the external VFO.

Yes, I have the manual and this little nugget is on page 2-3 in the 
section called Keyer Out - not my first place to look.

Thank you all who responded. Now that I know everything works....how 
can I let go of it :)
