Interestingly, if I remember correctly, Scott described at one time on the
reflector that the TCXO did not have better stability than the earlier
crystal oven. They moved to the TCXO because the ovens were becoming
unavailable. At least, that's how I remember the conversation. When I had
my Omni VI+ I left the +12V to it at all times to keep the oven on. There
was never a problem with stability.

Howdy - just did the TCXO upgrade myself. It took longer to get the tools
out and put them away then to do the upgrade. Very simple. Just make sure
that you find the 5 volt supply voltage and don't inadvertently apply 12
volts. Mounts on the side of the chassis easily.

My Omni VI has a temperature-controlled oven for crystal oscillator
stability. I believe that on later models TT used a TCXO for better
stability / shorter warm-up time. I know that I can leave my oven powered up
if I want to avoid the warm-up delay, but I would prefer not to have to.

Does anyone know how easy it would be to upgrade to a TCXO? The cost of a
return to TT doesn't warrant the improvement to me, but I wondered if it was
something the competent ham could do at home?
