Since the Orion's ALC is both hardware and software based, it can operate over a fairly wide range of input levels and still be relatively transparent. Theoretically, reducing your output by 3 dB and maintaining the exact same drive would require a 3 dB decrease in your audio level, which is a pretty small amount. This would be complicated by the fact the Orion's mic inputs have a hardware AGC built in, so changes in the input level would be partially offset.

This is interesting specifically on the Orion's ALC action/settings.

So, If I am understanding correctly, for my audio set-up, I set the rig at
100 watts and speak into the mike and adjust the mic gain until I get ALC
light on voice peaks. So, now from what I am reading, if I have to run an
amp, and I reduce the power out to 50 watts, I must also reduce my mike gain
down to get the ALC light to only flicker on voice peaks??

Thanks,
Mark
