No, it's not. It's a skill that some people can learn and others can not.

It was a requirement for a ham license because the governments of the world
wanted a pool of easily draftable radio operators in time of war. Times
and technology has moved on, no millitary or emergency services provider
still uses it. 

IMHO if you want it to dissapear, complain about how no code hams
pollute the bands. If you want it to flourish, invite them to see how
much better their "hamming experience" is using morse code and that
learning and using it is good for THEM.

If you think that morse code is easy to learn, try teaching it to a
learning disabled person.
