I've just acquired a little Argosy II as a backup/portable/emergency
radio but am having so much fun with it that it's my primary rig right
now. What a nifty radio! The receiver's typically Ten Tec (which is a
good thing) and I've been getting wonderful reports on my transmitted
audio. I do plan to rebuild the PTO since it's a little "wobbly" and
maybe install 6-pole 2.8 KHz and 250 Hz Inrad filters to upgrade it a
bit (maybe).
The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the Argosy's AGC. It's
fixed and not to my liking. The attack is very sharp and -- without an
RF gain control -- tends to "pop" on strong signals. I work a lot of CW
and find the radio fine for that mode, but the harsh attack on received
SSB is very annoying.
Any hints or tips, please?
Thanks and 73,
Craig
