I was also impressed with the hamfest and also the new Omni VII. The
tailgate turnout was great and I sold just about everything I took. This
hamfest is becoming one of the best of the south!
I attended the Omni VII seminar and was impressed with the new radio. The
only question I could see was the up front filtering design that may be a
little weak but will have to check that out in true operating conditions.
The Internet and computer networking capability is very exciting. I most
likely will have to have one eventually.

Hello Group

I bought a complete OMNI C station (my favorite) that has the 645 Ultramatic
keyer included. The keyer works fine but I haven't any instructions for it.

My question is can the paddles be adjusted for spacing between and the
reversal of the left or right dit-dah asignment for each paddle??

I would like to thank the kind folks at Ten Tec for opening their doors
again this year for the annual Hamfest.

The flea market was bigger than ever.....got to see some old friends and
meet some new ones. We tried to get in to the 11AM seminar on the operation
on the Omni 7, but it was packed out by the time we got there and no room
anywhere.

The weather was beautiful and everything was perfect for a great hamfest.
Again, thanks Ten Tec!

Hi Bill
I don't have an answer to your question but I just bought an Omni C and
would be interested in any feedback that you get.
I am just getting back into amateur radio. I was a novice in 1954 and a
technician in the early 60's. Since I still had my technician certificate
I was grand fathered into a general class license after passing the current
technician written. My code is weak so when I get the Omni on line I plan
on listening to the practice frequencies for a while.
What key would you recommend that I use to start. When I was a novice I
had a hallicrafters S-53 receiver and a home made 6ag7tube transmitter that
put out 5 watts. I used a j-37 or j-38 key. Does the Omni have a keyer
built in that will let me use something like a Vibroplex iambic key?

I saw a note in the Ten-Tec Hamfest chat box that the video of the Omni VII
will be posted on the web site next week. I am looking forward to
downloading it. I hope it is not HUGH!

What a great hamfest! It gets better each year! I was so glad to meet folks
I have QSOed with on the air and exchanged ideas here!

It is also great to participate in the "hands on" tent to check out the
product line. Nice Ten Tec folks were available to answer any questions if
you had any. I was able to operate CW on the Omni VII and it looks like it
is going to be very nice; kind of funny to look behind it and to see a built

in ethernet connection! what potential this rig will have....

The tailgating was awsome while being able to look at everyone's goodies for

sale which included boatanchers as well as top of the line newer equipment.
The atmosphere reflected everyone having a good time today.

This is one of my favorite hamfests in the area and actually start looking
forward to it months ahead of time. I also enjoyed, as busy as it was, to
get to say hello and chat with the Ten Tec staff; something you can not do
with most other vendors.

The bottom line is that every year I always go away with a great feeling and

can't wait until next year.

Thanks,

Mark KA4ICK

LEFT-HANDED CW OPERATORS

If you wish to switch the dit and the dah paddles, remove the top of the
unit. Remove the PC assembly and locate the brown and violet wires on the PC
socket. The brown lead should be one pin to the rear of the keyer from the
center terminal, and the violet lead one pin to the front. Unsolder these
two leads and interchange them. Resolder and reassemble the keyer.

Ain't TenTec great. The are the only company that tells you how to do it
yourself.

For KC0YAI, I use a 645 and a 645 A with all my Omnis, (2 b's and a C). I
also use a Logikit with a Bencher paddle that I like very much. Lots of
keyers exist on the dreaded e-market. If you'd like to talk about one of
mine, I may part with it. Just e-mail me at d.e.warnick@comcast.net. I'm
talking about the 645's not the LogiKeyer, here.

On occasion (like tonight) my sidetone seems to have a bit of a chirp. A
few days ago I fired up the old Century 21 (no antenna connected) as a
monitor and the signal sounded perfect, much better than the sidetone
coming from the O2' s speaker. At other times the O2's sidetone is clear
as a bell.

I've had this rig just a bit over a week and really like it, but I'm
still way down low on the learning curve. Has anyone else noticed this
sidetone? A search of the archive shows clicks as an occasional
problem... but my sidetone is 599C, not 599K.

The first thing I would check is to make sure that there is ample power
supply voltage getting to the radio. IIRC the target voltage is around 13.9

V. Measure at the input connector when keying and see if it drops below 12.

Anyone find or using a replacement transistor for
their Argosy? They are listed on the Ten Tec site as
no longer available for the stock part.

Not owning an Argosy or an Argosy manual, I do not know the part number
for that transistor, so I have no part number to try to cross reference.
If I did know the transistor part number, I might be able to look it up
and try to find another transistor with similar characteristics.

The Argosy uses the following transistors in the final amplifier:

1 x MJE-520 (Q3)
2 x MRF-476 (Q1, Q2)
2 x MRF-477 (Q4, Q5)

The hard ones to find will be the MRF-476's and -477's.
Cross Ref. for the MJE-520 is an NTE-124 at $2.29 ea. at Mouser
