Possible? Do reflectors like ours have more power to sway than we might
consider?

Yes, let's bridle those individual and sometimes irresponsible personal
liberties!
Let's see... when you talk of "rigid checks and balances of the traditional
press and publishing world" are you speaking of the NY Times' Jason Blair
and similar "reporters" who make up stories out of whole cloth? Or are you
talking about their use of anonymous sources? And surely their printing an
"Editorial comment" on page 17 to correct a page 1 bogus article is
responsible. Or maybe I've missed it and what you are speaking of is NBC
blowing up the truck to show how it will burn in a crash, or Dan Rather and
the forged documents and his Mary Mapes who have the attitude that they can
say anything without proof and it will stand until others can prove the
untruth of it.
The internet is probably the very best place to get good information because
of the immediacy of the feedback. And the folks 'round here don't depend on
advertising revenue from companies whose rigs are reviewed.
Still, we need to avoid what I see as hateful rhetoric and be sure that much
of that I've heard spouted is just hateful. It is not helpful when viewed
in any light.
I am not taking issue with you, Jerry, but with what you said about the
"traditional press..."
