There may be something amiss. If you have QSK set to 0 you will drop out of
receive immediately. If you are looking at the latest version of the Orion
1 or the first of the Orion 2 manual, you will find a confusing statement
about delay before sending out TX power. There is no connection to QSK.
The delay is fixed at 15 msec and this error (which was not present in the
Orion manual current about a year ago. So that I do not misstate something
I will clip on the TenTec mail I received. In my experience the Orion has
the best and fastest QSK I have found. I run 35 wpm or more when the brain
is not too tired and have never had a problem. You might also check that
you do not have the relay hang time set high--especially if you are keying a
PIN switched amp.
Good luck on finding your problem--but you don't need a new rig!
Notice in the response below that Jack thought the error crept into the
Orion II manual for the first time. It in fact crept into the latest Orion
I manual and was carried over to the Orion II

Bob,
I was ready to accuse you of not reading our manual but thought
better of it and looked at the various sections on keying etc. If I
learned one thing over the last 40 years it is that our customers
requests and observations are usually correct.
Our manual is wrong and will be corrected for the next printing. I
don't know how it got in the Orion II manual but was marked to be
re-written. The operation is as with the Orion. The QSK delay is
only for the receive returning. The External T/R delay is for the Amp
key only and will keep the linear relay from following the keying.
The time from key closure to RF is still 15ms.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Jack

Subject: [TenTec] Orion Radar early results
I was fooling around on a "dead" 20 M band last night and got some
actual radar data. The Orion works fine, except that there is ~28
msec of dead time between end of Tx and beginning of Rx. This is why
you don't get "true QSK" above 20 wpm or so -- a subject of much
previous discussion here. Maybe I need to "upgrade" to a non-DSP QSK
rig? Or, does the Orion II have faster QSK switching?
