The book says, Section 1-8  BATTERY BACKUP {regarding using a battery for 
memory and this part is underlined}, " With the POWER switch in the ON 
position, and the PARAGON operating, install the battery in the holder and 
plug the battery cable into the +9V connector located on the left rear 
corner of the large Logic Board".

My experience in repairing radios where this was apparently not done in this 
manner has been found to require replacement of the RAM chip.  Not good.

DO NOT use an alkaline in a Paragon unless you intend to clean up the 
exploded mess inside the radio.  Tentec is WRONG in giving this instruction. 
Ni-Cad works just fine.
