Many thanks guys, I now have two of the three filters I wanted for my Orion.
If there is an Inrad 762 out there somewhere..let me know.
Also..any remote chance anybody has any Inrads for an Yaesu MP...heresy to
ask..but..never know when somebody is moving from the Yaesu to the new
OrionII. Sold both fully filtered MP's and bought an unfiltered MK 5...duh.
TIDBIT of trivia...Happened to look at an OLD 1996 I think CQ with the
original MP review...listed sales price $3300 without and $3600 with the
power supply...wow...makes the Orion look like a real bargain in todays
dollars for what we get..Safe and happy New Year to all....73, Tommy WD4K

Can't imagine a better tuner. The internal TT OII tuner tunes my unruly open
wire fed/bauln/coax antennas just fine. Memory isn't what I needed, range
was, and the OII has it.

Hi.
I must have ordered my Orion II the same day as you. I was wondering if you
are trading in. I sent them my trade in already -- so it will
be interesting to see if there is much difference between our delivery
dates.

According to LDG, the new one they are planning has the same or better
range, and has memory. I really like the memory idea as ths will speed
tuning even more. I agree, the current Orion tuner has considerable
range - at least mine sure does (and I don't know whether it is an LDG or
a TT tuner.) My experience is with the Orion tuner, though I doubt that
changes have been made in the Orion II since they are not mentioned on
the web site as one of the upgrades.
In answer to the other question - it is an internal tuner, and was
described as replacing an existing tuner in the Orion - they do not say
it can be added to an Orion that never had a tuner installed.

The Orion that was delivered to me in Sep 2003 has an LDG tuner that matches
antennas that my Icom 775 wouldn't touch.

FWIW, I went back to the CVS in Hattiesburg, MS and found them on the
last-minute gifts shelf. I bought one to try and that left four. They rang
up for $9.99.
The volume out is lower than my Heil Pro Set Plus and Heil Quiet Phones.
Haven't had any noise the try them against. I think I'll through them in
the box for portable ops. If they break, no big deal.

George,
Interesting you should say what you have about the AT. I noticed that
the tuner in my OII doesn't have the same range as the TS-870 I just sold.
The OII will not tune my 40meter delta loop on 80 as my '870 did. It somes
is
able to tune my 40 meter Windom ont 80. I know I asking a lot; however I
put
this out as a data point only

Sorry for firing the query on the earlier FS: listing to the list instead
of the operator directly. It's not the stupidest thing I've done, just the
dumbest I've done today. I should make it a rule to compose every message

Listening on 260 KHz with my ORION II tonight and heard KSL5 radio in Utah
which broadcasts on 1160 KHz. That would be 900 KHz below their broadcast
frequency. I'm curious about this and wonder what exactly I'm listening to.
Besides, it is time to talk about something besides headphones... :)

Hmm, when I said I wanted an Omni I didn't realize there were so many
iterations to that designation.
I went to one of the websites re Ten Tec chronology and discovered that
Omni's go back to 1979.
I am most interested in the VI+ but a good VI would also be a great rig. If
someone can point me in the right direction on the internet, I would be
interested in learning the differences between the two VI models.
I love my Argonaut 516 and now lust for something better.

I don't see it in my manuals either. So it must be under another board.
There has got to be someone on this reflector who has accessed that
board, and can tell you. Looking at the TOP VIEW picture in the manual,
I wonder if it is under the LOW LEVEL DRIVER and FM boards, near the
speaker.

That would be the image of the 2nd IF = 450 kHz. TT's clever phrase
is "specifications apply > 1.8 MHz". I.e., all bets are off below
1.8. The Rx is insensitive, and as you see, image rejection is poor
-- maybe other problems, too.
I use the SubRx to listen to AM broadcast at times. Longwave is kinda
useless. Why did they enable it at all, you ask? Good question.
Competitive pressure, I suppose.

Optional Ten Tec Filters Installed: 217, 219, 282, 285, and 288
DC Power Cord
The radio is in very good / excellent condition. The person I purchased it
from did not have a Ten Tec hand microphone but sent along a noise canceling
truck driver's mic that I'll be happy to include at no extra charge...hi! I
do have the accompanying manual and it is in fair condition, as the
previous owner had made numerous notations in it and the clear plastic cover
is torn. I did not receive it in its original box, so I do not have it.
The only electrical / mechanical / cosmetic flaws I am aware of consist of a
few minor scratches to the top cover and the tuning knob has a bit of a
wobble to it; otherwise, it seems to be in perfect working order and was in
operation in my shack yesterday. I just don't have room to keep everything I
want to play with within arm's reach it takes up allot of room.
I'm asking $1000 plus UPS shipping and insurance costs from Arkansas. I will
accept postal money orders or PayPal.
Thanks and 73,

That is almost assuredly an image based around the 450
khz IF or multiples thereof. I am awaiting my Orion
II and cannot explain why it is happening specifically
but this must have something to do with a lack of
image rejection. Are you using the sub receiver or
the main?
