If the battery to engine-block ground lead is inadvertently disconnected,
then the transceiver may be damaged. See paragraph 4.) B. of the following

Think of it this way: if said battery ground lead becomes disconnected and
the rig is grounded, then the negative power cable to the rig may be the
main current path from the negative battery post to ground. Having this
lead protected may also prevent fire in that lead's insulation. There are
probably other reasons but I can't think of them.

Why would it be different for mobile use? I am using the same kind for
my FT-900 mobile rig as my Omni V and Jupiter use in the house.
Thanks for bringing this up.
BTW, if TT made a 100-watt mobile-size rig, I'd be using that. The
Delta II went to a good home that needed a base rig. The Scout doesn't
have split capability. It get loaned out to new hams who need a simple
rig at first.
