WHAT? Where did this come from!! :) Not sure what President Bush or the
rabid ventings of a Broward County Fl Democrat have to do with Ten

Martin - have you even taken off the back panel to get to the board with
the keying relays on it ? I looked at mine and decided I would listen to the
relay "boing" awhile longer - I know which one it is and have a quiet
replacement but I suspect if I just lift it off the board a tiny bit it will
be silent -but it almost looks like
if it aint broke dont fix it situation " especially with regard to the SO239
connections but maybe something is there that I miss.
I know I dreaded taking off the front panel of my Centurion to replace the
meters but that turned out to be a snap.

If that were true, then Baskins Robbins would only serve one flavor of ice
cream and every one would love that one flavor. On the other hand, give the

Expensive one to some, not so expensive to others. It relative. It's no
different and not much more expensive in many cases than flying RC model
planes. One small radio glitch or one pilot error and a $2000 craft strikes
tera-firma at a rapid and usually accelerating pace leaving one to collect
the pieces and start all over. And there's nothing offered FREE either.
Better yet, me for one, in the past I fly the real planes for a hobby. Buy
the farm with one of those babies and you just spent some $30 to $50K or
more. Oh, don't forget the required annual inspections at some $3000 to
$5000 each and these don't seem very free either. And that too is only a
hobby.
>

to get an Orion and you aren't happy, then perhaps you've made the wrong
choice. We do that from time to time because we're human. Suck it up,
admit it and go on. Life continues. But if you have sold the old Buick
and the old truck and took the proceeds from the yard sale to get an Orion
and you are smiling from ear to ear then you've made a great decision.
>

cycle today in the design world is only about 2 to 3 years at best.
Remember just a few years ago we thought a 486 processor was the latest and
greatest thing and would solve all our problems. Little did we know.
Today, if you aren't at 1.3 GHz or faster, you're out of date. Companies
must move ahead to stay alive in the world of business today. Folks simply
demand it. Decisions must be made and unfortunately those decisions will
not and never will make all folks happy. I forget just who said it but I
really think it's true, "one can satisfy 1/2 of the folks 1/2 of the time
and all the folks none of the time".

many other companies that produce "hobby" equipment will listen and respond
to their customers with the depth and integrity that has been done and shown
by Tentec.

Its not a matter of CW staying with us. No body is taking anything away.
Its
a matter of newcomers embracing it as a mode of choice that will sustain
it.
As long as there are highly respected and publicized contests and awards,
not to mention the prestige related to knowing CW, a goodly number of new
hams
will embrace it. Arm twisting unnecessary.

hi guys
CW won't go away. After all, hams had to wait about 11 years (March 18,
1956)
for the FCC to recognize RTTY for ham use. After that, it wasa only that any
mode for which there is public documentation could be used (see Part 97). CW
has lots of documentation. Typing isn't required to demonstrate RTTY skills.
Get real folks.

While not knowing the true political background of this issue, and I'm sure
there is a political basis for this issue, in my reading the FCC actions and
I quote:
"The NPRM&O consolidated 18 petitions for rule making from the amateur
community. Several petitioners simply asked the FCC to drop the Morse
requirement, but some--including the ARRL--also proposed a wide range of
additional changes to the amateur rules. The FCC said the various petitions
had attracted 6200 comments from the amateur community, which soon will have
the opportunity to comment again--this time on what the FCC calls "our
tentative conclusions" in its NPRM&O."
Therefore it would appear to me that the FCC is simply taking action on the
petitions (18) that have been filed. That step is required in their due
process in order to clean out the filing cabinet. Frankly, I wouldn't get
too "heated up" over the issue. As I see things, for those that don't
operate CW then it really won't make any difference. For those that do
operate CW, again, it won't make any difference. What might make a
difference however is the fact that certain individuals that desire to
obtain a ham license will now be able to do so. There will be more hams,
and more utilization of the frequencies presently available and thus our
collective ability to hold on to what we got. That sole fact is vastly
important.

Come on, Guys.
Ten Tec looses at least $300 of bottom line profit each time an Orion is
returned under the 30 day return policy. The unit has to be retested, and
then it is sold at a lower price as demo equipment.
Now, would you want to risk another $300 on an individual who has used this
policy to return an Orion once, and now wants to purchase another one, or
even an Orion 2? I think TenTec is only being smart in how they are doing
business to refuse to sell to that individual a second time.
And, joking about using the color of the TenTec dot as a reason to return a
radio, is just plain stupid. Not worth the bandwidth or the read....
This is an incredible offer that has been extended to us, and we need to use
it wisely. Let's not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs!

I have the following Ten-Tec I-F filters for sale:
Model 282 (250 Hz 6 pole CW filter used in the 6.3 MHz I-F stage)
Model 285 ( 500 Hz 6 pole CW filter used in the 6.3 MHz I-F stage)
Model 288 (1.8 kHz 8 pole SSB filer used in the 6.3 MHz I-F stage)
The 282, 285 and 288 are optional plug-in filters for the Corsair, Paragon,
Omni-V, Omni-VI and Omni-VI+ transceivers. They are currently sold new by
Ten-Tec for $109. each. I want to sell them for $70. each, which includes
shipping within the USA.
I also have a Ten-Tec model 216 filter for sale. This is an optional plug-in
9 MHz I-F filter used in the NAR bandwidth position for the Omni-V, Omni-VI
and Omni-VI+ transceivers. This is a 500 Hz 6 pole filter designed
specifically for the 2125/2295 Hz RTTY tones, and it is no longer listed
for sale by Ten-Tec. It is also $70, which includes shipping within the USA.
