I thought the whole idea of the Orion was to produce a radio that would never
be obsolete, a radio that
can always be upgraded, never growing old. The JA gear was used as an example
of radios that were always
being upgraded by bringing out new models. Inference was Orion would never be
like this. The original Orion
still has many unresolved issues, so an owner wouldn't think he has an obsolete
radio until all the bugs are removed
or reduced to an acceptable number. What a shock to find out that the Orion is
being discontinued, before it's
had a chance to be finished? Now some argue that the JA companies bring out
newer rigs all the time. Problem is,
Ten Tec sold the Orion as a longer term radio that could always be upgraded
over the internet. Guess we'll have to
see if the new firmware works as it should, and we'll watch the value of our
Orions slip into oblivion with the likes of
the
756,Pro,ProII. Original Orion hasn't been on the market that long, when you
take into account all of the glitches and
various
fixes. Good luck to all with your boatanchors...
