While I agree with Bill that you should replace your coax, the symptoms you 
describe, especially where you lose RX sensitivity after transmitting, but that 
tapping the key to cycle the T/R relay will often restore sensitivity, sounds 
suspiciously like the T/R relay is shot.  I'd start there while you're 
replacing the coax!
