Bob,
Here is what I THINK might happen with a 65 AH battery. I
collected a bunch of data last year prepairing for field day and the
Corsair was among the ten rigs I measured. All data was collected at
40 meters. Current drain may vary some on other bands. I tested
the following:
Century 22, Argonaut 515, Argonaut V, Argosy, Argosy II, Corsair II,
Omni D series C, Jupiter, Paragon and Omni VI.
I built a spread sheet to crunch all the numbers and the following
table is what I got for the Corsair II.
I use 50 % of the nameplate battery capacity, as the terminal voltage
drops below useful (except in emergency cases) level, hence, your 65
AH battery becomes 32.5 AH in a real case.
I hope the chart reproduces OK. If not, please let me know.
Transmit Duty Cycle 50%
Battery Cap (Ahrs) 32.5
Corsair II
RX TX 2W 5W 20W 50W 100W
(Stby)
Amps 0.92 1.70 3.00 4.10 6.80 9.60 13.00
CW Average Current 1.21 1.49 2.16 2.86 3.71
CW Amps per Watt 0.61 0.30 0.11 0.06 0.04
CW Run Time 24.2 19.7 13.5 10.2 7.9
SSB Average Current 1.64 1.91 2.59 3.29 4.14
SSB Amps per Watt 0.82 0.38 0.13 0.07 0.04
SSB Run Time 17.9 15.3 11.3 8.9 7.1
>From my testing, it looks like the Argosy (either model) and the Triton
IV are the best choice for extended battery operation. In 100 watt
rigs, the Corsair comes in second and the Omni VI last place. Of
course, there are many parameters to consider beside battery
consumption.
