Use the PTT line in the back of the rig on the I/O connector and leave
the mike plug in the front for audio only

That has been at the top of my list of things to try. I fully
suspect RF is getting in from my footswitch and being coupled to the
audio circuitry through that connection to Pin 2. If the Orion had a
MOX
button, I could test this theory.
