That's correct. The older rigs were designed for Hi-Z mics. Also, the
540 may not provide the DC voltage necessary for an electret mic. You
may need to put a battery inside the mic. The Ten Tec desk mic has
provision for an internal battery. The older Ten Tec hand mics also had
a space for a 9V battery inside, but the current one does not. Current
Ten Tec rigs provide about 4V on pin 4 of the mic. jack. My Corsair has
7.7 V on pin 4.
