Looking for advice:

I am interested in a new (or at least new-to-me) HF rig, with the condition
that it cannot consume more than 3A at 12V input.

My first thought was the Ten-Tec 516 Argonaut (I've had/have several
old-generation argonauts back to 1972, but I want 160 and WARC bands)
but the only clue about DC current demand is the 7.5A fuse (too much
for my situation.) So here's the question on the ten-tec front - what is the
DC power consumption at receive (with nominal audio, etc.); and at CW
transmit 5W? (the 20W transmit power level won't meet my power budget,
but 5W of output power is OK.)

If the ten-tec 516 is not power efficient enough, other options might be
Index
Labs QRP PLUS (not current production), Elecraft K2 (no time to build one,
although it looks interesting), ICOM 703 (I know little of it), Yaesu FT817
(I'd rather have something closer to a conventional rig, whatever that
means),
Kenwood TS130V (I'd really like 160M)... Weight is important but not the
highest priority.

Have I missed something?

So I'm just looking for advice for someone that wants a solid mainstay rig
that will fit in my 12V, 3A power budget.

(the power budget has to do with my wish for a "travel ready" station that
is based on a 12V switching power supply and a 12V liIon battery pack.)
