Well as Grant points out, it's been a real problem trying to obtain a
correlation between the radio and my hair loss, I have also not been able to
correlate the radio to my weight gain, short temper, sore knees, bad eyes,
etc.,
etc., etc., !!!! Mayhaps it really doesn't correlate? Damn, now I need to
find another reason for it all ... besides AGE! 8^)

Grant and I (and a whole bunch of other Hams) apparently have more than a
few interests in common ... and the photo reflectors are damn sure just like
this one! <paraphrased>"I like Nikon cameras but they (Nikon) are unmitigated
criminals for charging us $3200 for that D2H and now that the D2X is released
they ONLY need $1999 for it ... and it's ONLY 4.2 MP!" ..... So, after all
these "pertinent" opinions (and there were SEVERAL), I think I'll buy one
because it's EXACTLY what I want, it's at an attractive price, it's EXACTLY
what
I need to replace my F5, and it's comfortable in my hands!

...... and the Orion? It's replacing my FT-1000 Mark V because it's what I
want: great receiver, great interface, updates are user controlled, AND it
hears better than the MK V based on my OWN testing IN MY OPERATING POSITION
during that first 30 days. And it's exactly what I need AND it works FB in my
radio room .... and it's comfortable to use ... after some practice 8^)!

Opinions are like noses, everyone has one BUT, it's mine/ours, it's
permanently attached to ME/US and it reflects my/our knowledge AND my/our
prejudice.
So, listen to these opinions with an open, clear mind, as several have merit
and apply to the subject at hand. Use them as information, good and bad,
but make your decision on what you know! That 30 day money back guarantee is
the best chance you have to make the decision YOURS!

Good luck!

As a zillion others have said, listen to more than just the guys who are the
loudest grumblers. No one would deny some owners have experienced some
issues .. maybe Orion, maybe not. Everyone can find something to pick at.
The Orion is still one of the very best radios to come along in a long time.
And it does keep getting better.

I've been trying to blame it for my vanishing hair ... No luck yet, but
there must be a connection :-)

I hate to keep drawing the same parallel, but I do hang around various
photography forums a good bit also (when I'm not shooting) and the parallels
are really eerie. If you believed all of the posts, no one would ever
purchase any digital camera (consumer or pro level) at any price. And
people spend as much or more time denigrating this or that or the vendor or
their "lousy" $2000 lens (how could the manufacturer make such a horrendous
engineering error, etc.) .. anything other than themselves or their own
technique .. :-)

And you can't lose with the 30 day guarantee (well, some shipping maybe, but
even that's a small price )...
