Joe, you don't need a battery in it as long as you are using it with a Ten 
Tec radio. It gets it's power from pin 4.

I just realized that my 705 mike does not have a 9v battery in it, I wont 
admit how many years I have been using it,  hi hi can someone tell me what 
the 9v is for, I suspect it has to do with an audio control. no mention of
