Before I go any further, I've sent a copy of this
email directly to Noel/W9EFL for him to announce on
the Sunday night Ten Tec net from time to time. He
already knows about my request because I explained it
to him and good 'ol Scott R/W4youknowwho in person
during the W9DXCC convention in Chicago in
mid-September. Both of them are VERY supportive of
this (and I am dearly appreciative to them) but they
confirmed there is not what I need around the factory,
so here I come to YOU at their suggestion.
====================================================
(Noel: readable copy begins here)
I'm developing a novel where the main character is an
Amateur Radio operator who is also heavily into buying
items (car, appliances, etc.) that are at the very
least perceived as USA-made. Enter our friends in
Sevierville, as if you did not know, for the radio
gear that the character will be using.
I need to borrow, for a period of around three to six
months (a little longer would be nicer) a DEAD Ten Tec
Omni VI, preferably one *before* the upgrades were
made available. I emphasize a DEAD unit that is
laying around for parts but has not been scrounged for
them yet and is also in usable looking condition
(those backed over by a motor home or said same won't
be considered; it needs to be in one respectable piece
at least).
I prefer one that has been whacked by lightnin' (real,
NOT the white kind from a backwoods still - that's for
the *op*! GRIN) but does not have too many scorch
marks as the rig will NOT have any electricity applied
to it at any time. For one that operates, I've got a
nearby friend who has one and for that part I'll go
over to his delicious QTH down the road.
I need to use the dead one to get a feel of the knobs
and switches and weight and to develop a description
of its color/condition/etc for the book so that I can
just turn to my mind and know what I am writing about
when I sit down. I'm doing the same thing in a search
for a black Walther PPK (you can guess what THAT
project revolves around) but that is another matter
altogether.
Please for now do NOT ask about plot specifics or
tentative titles...those are being kept under wraps,
but both are in concrete awaiting filing of copyright
paperwork.
Also, would anyone have the Omni VI operating and
service manuals, along with the same manuals for the
253 auto tuner and the 962 power supply? PDF copies
of these are ok; again, just need for reference.
As I also recall, there were boards that could be
added (quite easily) by operators into the Omni VI
during its lifetime; does anyone have a reference as
to what these boards were so I can have the
opportunity to incorporate those in the copy, if I so
wish?
I can be reached at my direct email of
thom59@yahoo.com -- and I'll handle shipping where
such arises; if you are in driving range, that's fine
as well. Get in touch with me and I'll exchange my
phone # with you so we can go from there.
I'll be posting this from time to time to keep
interest alive. Again, thanks in advance for all the
help with this!!!
