one of my smarted moves was to buy a remote for the herc II, for mobile use i guess. But i use it in the shack, so my Herc is up high with the Titan

and the remote does have a 4.5 - 6 band select.

When hooking up the 253 & Herc, I needed a remote tune button for the 253, so I used the one spare conductor ( or I made one a spare)... and use that new button to trip the tune function on the 253.( which is also up higher)..

In order to prevent blowing up stuff, i have an ant lockout . When the 253 selects an antenna, that antenna is unavailable to another radio. I placed another wafer on the antenna switch of the 253,,, which goes to my top ten devices switches... this and the next 5 pixs....

I'm not sure about the connector for the Herc, but I built my own cable to
interface my Omni VI, a homebrew remote tuning knob (couldn't find a used
301) and my PC. It's not elegant but it was simple to build. I took three
premade cables each with one appropriate end, cut the other ends off,
soldered the approriate wires together and added a couple of wire ties
around the three cable bundle for strain relief. Using the pre-made cables
was easier than soldering onto the connectors. The DB25 (Omni VI) and DB9
(computer) cables are very easy to find. I used a 5 pin round DIN for the
remote tuning knob. Those cables can be found as old PC style keyboard
extenders or as MIDI cables.
