Hi Cliff,
Having been in the Navy for 20+ yrs and retired as a Chief Electronics
Technician,let me clue you into something.When garage doorvopener first came
out that could work by "remote control" from your vehicle,the frequency used
was 243.0 Mhz.This was because the old AN/URC-4 radiolocator beacons were
available on the surplus market.The AN/URC-4 is a portable xmit only beacon
that was used by downed pilots   to establish their location .(it could also
xmit on 121.5 MHZ for commercial AC).
The garage door RX was basically a super regenerative  receiver tuned to the
neighborhood of 243.0 Mhz which is a military distress frequency.
So your garage door opener may not work too good if you live near an Air
Force  Base or Naval Air Station.
