The power companies already do twist their HV transmission lines. Check it out as you are a passenger in a car on a highway that parallels a three phase power transmission line. If it is one of the smaller transmission lines that uses utility poles, you will see that the three wires (ignore the ground wire) may be arranged in a vertical line for some distance. Then they will transition to a triangle, and eventually back to a vertical line again. If you pay close attention you will see that a different wire ends up on top than before.
