Subject: Orian Update
Rick,
I'll just go through this with the understanding that you probably know more
about computers than I do! My radio computer also runs Win98SE SR2, while my
other's run WinXPpro.
Would suggest you look at Control Panel/Add-RemovePrograms. If you have
'Ten-Tec Orion Update' in there, you should delete it. (I know this is the
first update you have done, but just in case)
My COM1 port is connected to the Orion with a standard serial cable (actually
the serial cable that came with the Orion). My settings for COM 1 are:
57600/8/N/1 and Flow Control is set for Hardware.
Just for kicks, my directories are set up: OrionUpdates
v1365
v1367
v1369.....etc.
When I download 'OrionUpdate.exe' from the TenTec site, I download it into, for
instance, v1369 directory. In the v1369 directory, I doubleclick on the
executable file and then change the default directory to v1369 so all of the
files relating to update v1369 are located in it's own directory. When you
expand the executable file, you should have the following files unpacked:
4 each .txt files
3 each .pdf files
565v1369.ruf
Install.log
Unstall.exe
Update.exe
update.ini
and of course the original 'OrionUpdate.exe' file.
Turn the Orion OFF. Connect the serial cable between COM1 and the Orion's
serial port. And you have the turn-on sequence correct, i.e., hold the USER2
button down and turn on the power. In your directory which contains the update
files, click on Update.exe. In the upper left hand screen, click on SETUP and
make sure your pointed to COM1. Then click on Program Update. If everything
works correct, down in the lower left screen you will see the line number
scrolling as the update progresses. It takes a couple of minutes to load the
9000+ lines of code. When it's completed, there is no need to run the 'Program
Verify' as there is still a bug in that program and it will tell you that you
have a loading error and what line number it stopped on, however that is not
valid info.
Since this is your first update, I would suggest you do a Master Reset once the
update is completed. This is a PITA because you have to reload your memory and
the four registery memories again, but this time it would be a safe thing to do.
Hope it works for you.
73,
Tom/W4BQF
