You are correct Bob.  Their primary concern with the use of a dedicated PTT
line is to avoid having their amplifier's T/R relay switch between keyed
elements.  And, semi-break-in is unacceptable to them since a change in CW
speed requires a change in the semi-break-in hang time.   The contest card
manages the amp hang time irrespective of CW speed.  Their logic makes
perfect sense for their application when used with mechanical T/R amplifier
relays.  If one is running an amplifier with PIN diode T/R switching (e.g.,
Alpha 87A), the separate PTT line from the contest card is unnecessary.

My comment concerning JA T/R relays is one based upon my experiences.  The
FT-1000MP I once owned was certainly an exception.

At the end of the day...they are making far too much of the Orion PTT line
issue when the proper place for the PTT contest card interconnect is on the
amp's PTT key line between the Orion and a mechanically-switched amplifier.
