WB8YQJ/6 quoted W5YR: "One word of realism, though: the ORION cannot forever be the best amateur radio transceiver even though it may hold that position at present." Don, before you get too excited, I believe you missed what is probably the most important point here. For the past 20+ years, most manufacturers have been bombarding us with what I'll call "whistles and bells" (general coverage, 1000 memories, cosmetics, etc) while ignoring more important issues like fundamental receiver performance (IMDDR3, BDR, etc) and fundamental transmitter performance (key clicks, TX IMD, etc). Whether ORION is best now or not is academic IMHO...the important point is that both ORION and the Elecraft K2 have hopefully re-focused the major manufacturers on what is truly most important to all of us (i.e. good fundamental RX and TX performance). If ORION and the K2 have done this, we will all benefit in the long run. Let the competition begin...and thank you Ten-Tec and Elecraft for redefining the rules of the game. 73, Bill W4ZV _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/tentec |
