If the rig is defective, has the complainer sent it back to Ten-Tec for
repair? If so, did it work when it came back?
Was the radio purchased from Ten-Tec or a third party? If the latter, then
if the radio is outside the 1-year warranty period the costs of repair are
the responsibility of the owner.
If the rig has failed repeatedly, has anyone tried to determine WHY it is
failing? Electronic items that work generally don't stop working unless
something external causes a problem.
I don't believe in "lemons" (a product that cannot be fixed). I do believe
in defective products... but a ham radio is a lot simpler than a modern
automobile, with a lot less systems. There are too many happy Jupiter
owners out there who use their radios extensively and who don't have
problems with them to think there is a design flaw... so if the radio keeps
failing either there is an incredible amount of bad luck in the way of
defective parts that is adhering to the owner, or the radio hasn't been
fixed correctly, or there is something in the environment (shack power
setup, antenna, cabling, etc.) that is causing problems.
AES and HRO won't take this rig in on trade because they don't deal in new
Ten-Tecs. If the rig IS WORKING then it should be no problem to get $900 or
more for it on eBay if it is in pristine condition. Or, advertise it on
this list... Jupiters don't seem to stay unsold on here long, either.
If the original poster is really unhappy with his Jupiter, then why not get
it fixed and then sell it?
