There are many places for reviews to happen; however, since eham is just one
user's opinion (Hopefully); the accepted standard of reviews in the
technical side are those in QST Laboratory reports. (www.arrl.org) They
are the in-depth reviews most hams look to for complete coverage of the
radio.
Subjective and limited technical reviews appear in the other ham magazines,
CQ, 73, and sometimes World Radio, (usually accessories). CQ VHF covers
those higher frequency products. And any radio may appear in the specialty
columns in any of the magazines.
Thus, eham is just one of many places for reviews to appear. For a high
end, costly radio, it may take awhile for many to get used enough to be
commented upon.
I would think reviews of the Orion would appear on the Ten Tec reflector
before one would see them on other web locations. And that has been the
case here.
There are so many ham web locations now, there is fragmentation of places to
post; and most hams will not read or see a given comment. The individual
reflectors may in fact contain more user comments than ever appear in the
formal review venues.
