You know what seems to be kind of funny with the import competitors is that
they can produce a rig with flaws and in a sense, unless it is a major flaw
that the manufacturer agrees (rarely) to correct, you're stuck with the
radio as is. There is no return policy for most every import radio. So you
learn to live with the flaws and rarely complain.
However, at least with the newer TenTec software defined radios, the flaws
can usually be corrected and the rig (e.g, 60 meter capability) can be
enhanced over time and at no additional cost. Nobody likes constant
firmware upgrades, but at least problems can be corrected without returning
the rig to have a chip replaced over and over.
While I have been a bit critical of how TenTec runs their sales and
marketing, I have always thought very highly of the radios and support I
have received. In other words, I think they have some people issues, not
technical issues as bad as the Orion reviewer seemed to elude to but never
went into detail - not going into detail makes me wonder about how objective
the review really is.

The most recent eham review is dated 21 July, by KD6WD.
I happen to agree with every thing he writes! In particular,
that new things about the rig are learned each time I use
it; have had mine since late May (though one trip back
to TT to have an "infant mortality" dealt with, failure in
the DSP logic board).
I do not agree with the long list of negatives given by
WB4HUC in his review dated 23 June. He is just a bit
too critical, and he has returned the radio to Ten Tec.
His sentence, "My Orion had eight or ten things about it that
just weren't right, and each time I sat down to use it I'd just
get irritated. Not good for a radio that costs as much as the Orion."
He really does not specify what these 10 things were, but he
obviosly did not like the continuing firmware updates, nor
problems he must have had downloading/installing same.
It is well he returned it as it "irritated" and frustrated him in
use.
But, not me!!
